Shop Name Boards Street by Street in Chennai (2026): What T. Nagar, Anna Nagar and the OMR Each Need

Shop name boards in Chennai are published at Rs.550 to Rs.800 a sq ft for ACP, Rs.700 to Rs.1,000 with 3D letters, Rs.220 to Rs.380 for a GSB glow sign and Rs.70 to Rs.120 for flex, installed with Tamil typography and Corporation permit work. Five belts carry about 130 new or renovated storefronts a month, and only the OMR accepts English first. Spread over its published life, the glow sign, not flex, is the cheapest board per year.

Five Chennai belts, about 130 new storefronts a month, one published card. What T. Nagar, Anna Nagar, the OMR, Velachery and Mylapore each need, why a glow sign beats flex per year, and why two of our own jobs came in under the card.

A new multi cuisine restaurant on Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue opened with an English first board. For six weeks walk ins ran below projection. It replaced the board with a 6 by 3 ft Tamil first ACP board with 3D acrylic letters, installed in 5 days for Rs.10,200, and walk ins recovered within a couple of weeks. That is one of three jobs our Chennai shop name board page publishes, and it is the cleanest short version of this guide: in Chennai the right board is decided street by street, and the wrong script can cost more than the wrong material. This guide walks the five belts the page publishes, from T. Nagar to the OMR, with the published card priced against each one.

What does a shop name board cost in Chennai in 2026?

The Chennai card is published per square foot, and every figure includes Tamil typography design, marine grade fabrication, transport, cyclone rated installation and Chennai Corporation permit work. The page publishes a 4 by 2 ft example for each format. We have added a 10 by 3 ft frontage, 30 sq ft, as a more typical main road fascia; that size is our choice, and the arithmetic is simply the published rate times the area.

Most Popular

ACP board, Tamil and English

Rs.550 to Rs.800per sq ft, installed

Rs.4,400 to Rs.6,400 for a 4 by 2 ft board, Rs.16,500 to Rs.24,000 for 30 sq ft. 5 days to install, 5 plus years of published life, rated to 120 km/h wind.

ACP with 3D acrylic letters

Rs.700 to Rs.850per sq ft, installed

Rs.5,600 to Rs.6,800 for 4 by 2 ft, Rs.21,000 to Rs.25,500 for 30 sq ft. 5 days, 5 plus years. The Anna Nagar restaurant format.

ACP with 3D brass letters

Rs.850 to Rs.1,000per sq ft, installed

Rs.6,800 to Rs.8,000 for 4 by 2 ft, Rs.25,500 to Rs.30,000 for 30 sq ft. 5 to 7 days, 7 plus years. The T. Nagar and Mylapore jeweller and silk shop finish.

GSB glow sign

Rs.220 to Rs.380per sq ft, installed

Rs.1,760 to Rs.3,040 for 4 by 2 ft, Rs.6,600 to Rs.11,400 for 30 sq ft. 5 days, 3 to 5 years, IP65 sealed, rated to 100 km/h.

Non-lit flex or vinyl

Rs.70 to Rs.120per sq ft, installed

Rs.560 to Rs.960 for 4 by 2 ft, Rs.2,100 to Rs.3,600 for 30 sq ft. 3 days, 10 to 14 months, not wind rated; removal is recommended before a cyclone.

Published 2026 Chennai rate card, per sq ft, installed. Includes Tamil first design, marine grade fabrication, transport, cyclone rated mounting and Chennai Corporation permit work. 2 year warranty with corrosion cover on ACP and GSB. The 4 by 2 ft figures are published; the 30 sq ft figures are our arithmetic on the same rates. The page does not state whether GST sits inside the rate, so ask on the quote.

Which board is cheapest per year of life in Chennai?

The sticker price ranks the formats one way; the published lifespans rank them another. Dividing each 30 sq ft price by its published life gives the cost of one year on the storefront. This is our arithmetic, and it flatters the long life formats slightly less than it could, because ACP and brass are published as 5 plus and 7 plus years and we divided by 5 and 7.

Our arithmetic: a 30 sq ft Chennai board, cost per year of published life

FormatPrice for 30 sq ftPublished lifeCost per year
GSB glow signRs.6,600 to Rs.11,4003 to 5 yearsRs.1,320 to Rs.3,800
Non-lit flexRs.2,100 to Rs.3,60010 to 14 monthsRs.1,800 to Rs.4,320
ACP boardRs.16,500 to Rs.24,0005 plus yearsRs.3,300 to Rs.4,800 at most
ACP with brass lettersRs.25,500 to Rs.30,0007 plus yearsRs.3,643 to Rs.4,286 at most
ACP with acrylic lettersRs.21,000 to Rs.25,5005 plus yearsRs.4,200 to Rs.5,100 at most

Three things fall out of that table. The glow sign, not the flex, is the cheapest board per year, and it lights itself after dark. Flex is only the cheapest choice when the shop will not stay a full year, which is exactly the case the page names for coaching centres. And brass lettering, the most expensive finish on the card, costs about the same per year as plain ACP, which is why the T. Nagar premium is less of a premium than it looks at the counter.

Which Chennai belts open the most new shops, and what does each need?

Our Chennai page publishes five high demand corridors with an approximate count of new or renovated storefronts each month, a script order and a default format. Added together they come to about 130 storefronts a month; the total is our sum of the published figures.

The five published Chennai belts: demand, script and default board

BeltPublished demandScript orderDefault board on the page
T. Nagar, Ranganathan StreetAbout 35 new or renovated a month; festival demand peaks 3x from October to JanuaryTamil first, classical calligraphyACP with gold finish or brass 3D Tamil letters

What does a board on Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar have to do?

Win a decision made from thirty feet away in a moving crowd. The page describes the Saturday evening test at the Usman Road end of Ranganathan Street, where hundreds of boards climb every building face, and draws three rules from it: one dominant element, usually a short Tamil trading name in a heavy, high contrast letterform; mounting above head height, because pedestrians, parked two wheelers and vendors fill the street at exactly the hours that matter; and lighting good enough to hold colour after sunset. Survey day checks what stands in front of the frontage at 6 PM, not at 11 AM.

The finish follows the trade. Silk saree shops and jewellers here use classical Tamil calligraphy with brass or gold finish 3D letters, and the published festival peak from October to January is when a tired board costs the most. On a 30 sq ft frontage the brass finish is Rs.25,500 to Rs.30,000 on the card, Rs.6,000 to Rs.9,000 more than plain ACP, and on our per year arithmetic that difference largely disappears over the board's life.

Why is Anna Nagar the belt where the script matters most?

Because the page describes its demographic as over 90 percent Tamil speaking families, and its restaurants, clinics, salons and grocery stores serve them daily. This is where the page's one before and after story comes from: the English first restaurant on 2nd Avenue that recovered its walk ins after switching to a Tamil first board. The page reports that recovery in words rather than numbers, and we will not put a percentage on it. Clear modern Tamil, not ornate calligraphy, is the published style here, because a passenger in a moving share auto has to read it.

Clinics carry one extra requirement. The page notes that Chennai Corporation requires specific health facility signage formats and that clinics in Anna Nagar, Velachery and Tambaram need Tamil medical practice disclosures visible from the street, usually on a GSB board so the clinic is findable after hours.

Is English first acceptable on the OMR?

Yes, and it is the only Chennai belt where our page says so. From Sholinganallur to Siruseri, and in the IT facing retail around Guindy and Velachery, cafes, restaurants and shops serve an IT workforce the page publishes at 15 lakh plus, and English first with Tamil second is culturally accepted. The trade peaks after 7 PM, which is why the glow sign is the published default here, and at Rs.6,600 to Rs.11,400 for 30 sq ft it is also the cheapest board per year on the card.

The brand that opens in both T. Nagar and on the OMR needs two boards, not one design copied twice. The page is explicit: shared colours and logo, different script hierarchy, designed as a pair. A board that is right for Ranganathan Street leaves walk ins on the table in Thoraipakkam, and the reverse is also true.

When is the cheapest board the right board in Velachery and Tambaram?

When the tenant will not outlast it. Velachery and Tambaram are published as South Chennai's fastest growing commercial belt, with new construction and residential conversions, bilingual boards and high demand from coaching centres and small retail. The page publishes average coaching centre tenancies of 8 to 12 months in Tambaram, Chromepet and Anna Nagar, and a published flex life of 10 to 14 months. The board and the lease end at about the same time, so a Rs.2,100 to Rs.3,600 flex board on a 30 sq ft frontage, installed in 3 days, is the rational buy. For a clinic or a shop that expects to stay, the same belt should take a GSB board instead.

Why do Mylapore and George Town need a different conversation?

Because the rules tighten there. Our page says Corporation signage rules in Chennai cover board dimensions, projection and height limits, and illumination, and that they tighten in heritage precincts such as Mylapore and George Town. Mylapore's temples, silk shops and traditional businesses take classical Tamil fonts and brass finish 3D letters. George Town, Sowcarpet, Parry's Corner and Broadway form the wholesale belt the page lists separately. The page does not publish a Corporation fee figure for Chennai, so a quote for either precinct should show the permit line on its own rather than folded into the per sq ft rate.

Which Chennai streets need marine grade materials and cyclone rated fixing?

Every one of them, to some degree, and the coastal strip most of all. The page names ECR, Besant Nagar, Adyar, the Marina, Triplicane and Royapuram as salt exposure zones, and publishes the failure sequence it replaces: galvanised iron brackets rusting within 6 months, budget aluminium pitting inside a year, unsealed LED wiring shorting in the humidity. Its specification is PVDF coated ACP, SS 316 hardware and IP65 enclosures, which it says add roughly 15 to 20 percent upfront and last 3 to 4 times longer.

Cyclone season runs October to December. ACP goes up on through wall anchors rated to 120 km/h, GSB is rated to 100 km/h, and flex cannot be meaningfully rated, so the handover pack says which boards to take down when a warning is issued. The page's third published job is the ECR case: after Cyclone Michaung, 12 shop boards from Thiruvanmiyur to Neelankarai were replaced with cyclone rated ACP within 10 working days of clearance, for Rs.1,85,000 in total, about Rs.15,417 a board on our division.

Why do our own published Chennai jobs cost less than the card?

We checked the two jobs that publish both a size and a price against the per sq ft card, the same test we ran on our Hyderabad jobs. Both came in below the band for their format. We cannot tell from the page whether they were quoted before the 2026 card, carried a volume or launch discount, or were measured on a smaller lettered area than the full frontage, so we name the gap rather than explain it away.

Our two published Chennai jobs checked against the published card

JobSize and formatPublished costPer sq ftCard band for that format
Silk saree shop, Ranganathan Street, T. Nagar8 by 4 ft, 32 sq ft, ACP with 3D brass letters and LEDRs.16,500, 6 daysRs.516Rs.850 to Rs.1,000, or Rs.27,200 to Rs.32,000
Multi cuisine restaurant, Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue6 by 3 ft, 18 sq ft, ACP with 3D acrylic lettersRs.10,200, 5 daysRs.567Rs.700 to Rs.850, or Rs.12,600 to Rs.15,300

For a budget, plan on the card. It is the figure the page publishes as the 2026 rate, and a quote that lands below it is a pleasant outcome, not a basis for a plan.

When should a Chennai board go up?

Before Aadi. The page describes Chennai's retail year building from the Aadi discounts of July and August through Navaratri and Deepavali into the January wedding and Pongal season, and it schedules refurbishments and new installs to finish before Aadi opens. The standard cycle is 5 working days for ACP and GSB, 3 for flex and 5 to 7 for brass letters, with a 48 hour emergency install at a 20 percent premium. A shop reading this in late September is already inside the festival run and the cyclone window, so the practical order is to book the survey now and choose a format that is rated for October.

How much does a shop board cost on Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar?

A 30 sq ft frontage in the published T. Nagar finish, ACP with 3D brass Tamil letters, is Rs.25,500 to Rs.30,000 on the Chennai card at Rs.850 to Rs.1,000 a sq ft, installed with Tamil calligraphy and Corporation permit work. Plain ACP for the same size is Rs.16,500 to Rs.24,000. Brass has a published life of 7 plus years, so per year it costs about the same as plain ACP.

Can a shop on the OMR use an English first board?

Yes. The OMR, from Sholinganallur to Siruseri, is the only Chennai belt where our page accepts English first with Tamil secondary, because cafes and retail there serve a published IT workforce of 15 lakh plus. The same page treats Tamil first as the commercial requirement in T. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Mylapore and Purasawalkam, so a brand with stores in both should design two boards as a pair.

Is a glow sign or a flex board cheaper for a Chennai shop?

Flex is cheaper at the counter and dearer over time. On a 30 sq ft frontage flex costs Rs.2,100 to Rs.3,600 but lasts a published 10 to 14 months, while a GSB glow sign costs Rs.6,600 to Rs.11,400 and lasts 3 to 5 years. Per year that is Rs.1,800 to Rs.4,320 for flex against Rs.1,320 to Rs.3,800 for GSB, on our arithmetic. Flex wins only when the tenancy is under a year.

Which Chennai areas need marine grade shop boards?

Our page names ECR, Besant Nagar, Adyar, the Marina, Triplicane and Royapuram as salt exposure zones, but it specifies marine grade materials for every Chennai board: PVDF coated ACP, SS 316 hardware and IP65 sealed enclosures. It publishes that these add roughly 15 to 20 percent upfront and last 3 to 4 times longer, and that galvanised iron brackets rust within about 6 months in salt air.

How many new shops open in Chennai's main retail belts each month?

Our Chennai page publishes approximate monthly counts of new or renovated storefronts for five belts: T. Nagar about 35, Anna Nagar and Mogappair about 30, the OMR about 25, Velachery and Tambaram about 25, and Mylapore and Alwarpet about 15. That is about 130 a month across the five, our sum. T. Nagar demand is published as peaking threefold from October to January.

How much does a shop name board cost in Chennai in 2026?

The published Chennai card is per square foot, installed: ACP Rs.550 to Rs.800, ACP with 3D acrylic letters Rs.700 to Rs.850, with brass letters Rs.850 to Rs.1,000, a GSB glow sign Rs.220 to Rs.380 and non-lit flex Rs.70 to Rs.120. Tamil first design, marine grade fabrication, cyclone rated mounting and Corporation permit work are included. A 4 by 2 ft ACP board is Rs.4,400 to Rs.6,400.

Which shop board suits which Chennai area?

Our page maps five belts. T. Nagar takes ACP with brass or gold 3D Tamil letters in classical calligraphy. Anna Nagar and Mogappair take ACP with clear modern Tamil. The OMR takes a GSB glow sign for its after 7 PM trade, with English first accepted. Velachery and Tambaram take budget ACP or GSB, and flex for short coaching tenancies. Mylapore takes classical Tamil in brass finish letters.

Does Chennai Corporation approval come with the board price?

Yes, on our published Chennai card the per square foot rate includes Chennai Corporation permit work, filed and followed up by our team. The page says the rules cover dimensions, projection and height limits and illumination, and that they tighten in heritage precincts such as Mylapore and George Town. It does not publish a Corporation fee figure, so ask for any permit charge to appear as its own line.
