Three hundred autos at Rs.650 each is Rs.1,95,000. That is the number on the auto hood rate card, and it is not the number on the invoice. Add 18% GST and the campaign lands at Rs.2,30,100. Every outdoor rate The Mediaverse publishes, hood branding at Rs.650 and Rs.630, back panel stickers at Rs.140 to Rs.270, no-parking boards at Rs.45 and Rs.35, newspaper inserts at Rs.1.25 to Rs.2.20 a copy, van hire from Rs.2,500 a day and shop boards from Rs.85 a square foot, is quoted before tax. This post does the arithmetic for all five formats so you walk into the budget meeting with a landed number instead of a pre-tax one.
What does 18 percent GST add to each rate card?
The rate is 18% across the board. The auto hood page states GST 18% extra, the back panel page states the same, the newspaper insertion rate card says GST extra, and the shop name board page states that GST at 18% applies on all signage manufacturing and installation. Nothing on this site is quoted inclusive of tax. The table below takes the published rate for each format at a realistic order size and shows the base, the tax and the landed total.
Landed totals at 18% GST, by format and order size (2026 rate cards)
| Rate card total | GST at 18% | Landed total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto hood, 300 autos at Rs.650 (minimum order) | Rs.1,95,000 | Rs.35,100 | Rs.2,30,100 |
| Auto hood, 500 autos at Rs.630 | Rs.3,15,000 | Rs.56,700 | Rs.3,71,700 |
| Auto back panel 24x6, 500 autos at Rs.170 (minimum order) | Rs.85,000 | Rs.15,300 | Rs.1,00,300 |
| Auto back panel 24x18, 500 autos at Rs.270 | Rs.1,35,000 | Rs.24,300 | Rs.1,59,300 |
| Newspaper insert A5, 50,000 copies at Rs.1.25 (minimum order) | Rs.62,500 | Rs.11,250 | Rs.73,750 |
| Newspaper insert A4, 50,000 copies at Rs.1.70 | Rs.85,000 | Rs.15,300 | Rs.1,00,300 |
| No-parking boards, 1,000 at Rs.45 (minimum order) | Rs.45,000 | Rs.8,100 | Rs.53,100 |
| No-parking boards, 5,000 at Rs.35 | Rs.1,75,000 | Rs.31,500 | Rs.2,06,500 |
| Mobile van T-Shape, 10 days at Rs.3,000 plus Rs.12,000 setup (national card) | Rs.42,000 | Rs.7,560 | Rs.49,560 |
| Mobile van T-Shape, 10 days at Rs.2,500 (Chennai card) | Rs.25,000 | Rs.4,500 | Rs.29,500 |
| Shop name board, 10 sq ft ACP at Rs.690 per sq ft | Rs.6,900 | Rs.1,242 | Rs.8,142 |
| Shop name board, 10 sq ft non-lit at Rs.85 per sq ft | Rs.850 | Rs.153 | Rs.1,003 |
Two rows in that table need a note. The mobile van line uses the national rate card, which prices a T-Shape at Rs.3,000 a day plus a one-time setup of Rs.12,000, while the Chennai page prices the same format at Rs.2,500 a day with design, Corporation permits, fabrication, GPS and the daily photo report already inside the day rate. Van pricing is genuinely city specific, so take the day rate from the city page you are booking. The Mumbai van page publishes a worked example that lands the same way: one L-Shape van for 14 days is Rs.62,000 plus GST, which is Rs.73,160 on the invoice.
There is a timing point hiding in that table as well. Four of the five formats are one-time buys, so the whole tax arrives in a single invoice at the start of the campaign: Rs.35,100 on the smallest hood campaign, Rs.15,300 on a 50,000-copy A4 insert run, Rs.8,100 on a thousand boards. A van is the exception, because it bills by the day, so a 30-day booking spreads its tax across the run in the same rhythm as the hire itself. If what is tight this quarter is cash flow rather than total cost, that difference is worth more than a few hundred rupees of rate.
Which format has the smallest landed entry ticket in 2026?
Entry ticket here means the smallest quantity the published rate card lets you book, landed with tax. Ranked, it runs from about a thousand rupees to well over two lakh, and the order surprises most first-time buyers: the format everyone asks for first, auto hoods, has the highest floor of the five.
Shop name board, 10 sq ft non-lit
Rs.85 per sq ft, Rs.850 before tax. This is signage on your own shop rather than a media buy, so treat it as the asset it is, but it is the cheapest line on any rate card here and it works every hour the shutter is up. The same 10 sq ft in GSB LED is Rs.3,068 landed and in ACP Rs.8,142.
Mobile van, one day, T-Shape in Chennai
Rs.2,500 a day, and the published minimum booking is one day per van. This is the only outdoor format on the card you can buy for a single day, which is what makes it the format for a launch, an exhibition or a one-day activation.
No-parking boards, 1,000 boards
Rs.45 a board at the 1,000-board minimum published on the city pages, all-inclusive of the board, printing, transport and installation at the gate. The rate drops to Rs.35 once an order reaches 5,000, where 5,000 boards land at Rs.2,06,500.
Newspaper inserts, 50,000 A5 copies
Rs.1.25 a copy at the published 50,000-copy minimum per format. A4 at the same minimum is Rs.1,00,300 landed and A2 is Rs.1,29,800. Above 50,000 copies the bulk rates of Rs.1.15, Rs.1.50 and Rs.2.00 apply.
Auto back panel stickers, 500 autos
Rs.170 for the 24x6 sticker at the 500-auto minimum. The larger 24x18 sticker at the same minimum is Rs.1,59,300 landed, and at the 800-auto tier the 24x6 rate falls to Rs.140, so 800 autos land at Rs.1,32,160.
Auto hood branding, 300 autos
Rs.650 an auto at the 300-auto minimum, the highest floor of the five formats. At 500 autos the rate falls to Rs.630 and the campaign lands at Rs.3,71,700. Some areas add an auto-union fee, billed extra and outside both the rate card and this arithmetic.
What does each format cost per unit once tax is added?
Unit costs are how most buyers actually compare formats, and every one of them moves by the same 18%. Landed, an auto hood is Rs.767 per auto at the Rs.650 rate and Rs.743.40 at the Rs.630 volume rate. A 24x6 back panel sticker is Rs.200.60 per auto, falling to Rs.165.20 at the 800-auto tier, and the larger 24x18 sticker is Rs.318.60 and Rs.283.20. A no-parking board is Rs.53.10 per gate, dropping to Rs.41.30 once the order crosses 5,000. An A5 newspaper insert is Rs.1.475 per copy, an A4 is Rs.2.006 and an A2 is Rs.2.596, which is where the Rs.1,475 per thousand households figure in our insert comparisons comes from. A T-Shape van day is Rs.3,540 landed on the national card and Rs.2,950 in Chennai. Signage lands at Rs.100.30 per sq ft for non-lit, Rs.306.80 for GSB LED and Rs.814.20 for ACP.
Hold on to those unit numbers rather than the campaign totals if you are building a comparison of your own. The totals move every time the quantity moves, and the unit rate does not. They are also the right numbers to hold a competing quotation against: ask whether the rate you are being shown is before or after tax, convert both to landed, and only then compare like for like.
What does an approved budget actually buy once tax comes out?
Now run it the other way. If the figure your finance team approved is tax inclusive, divide it by 1.18 to find what you can actually spend at rate card prices. A tax-inclusive budget is worth 84.7% of its face value as media, and that missing 15.3% is what turns a comfortable-looking number into a campaign that does not meet a minimum order.
What a tax-inclusive budget buys at rate card prices
| Rate card spend available | GST inside the budget | What that reaches | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rs.50,000 approved, inclusive | Rs.42,373 | Rs.7,627 | 941 no-parking boards at Rs.45, which is under the 1,000-board minimum. A 14-day T-Shape van run in Chennai at Rs.35,000 before tax fits with room left over. |
| Rs.1,00,000 approved, inclusive | Rs.84,746 | Rs.15,254 | 1,000 no-parking boards at Rs.45,000 with Rs.39,746 left, or 50,000 A5 inserts at Rs.62,500. It misses the 500-auto back panel minimum of Rs.85,000 by Rs.254. |
| Rs.2,00,000 approved, inclusive | Rs.1,69,491 | Rs.30,509 | 500 back panel stickers at Rs.85,000 or Rs.1,35,000, or 3,000 no-parking boards at Rs.1,35,000. Short of the Rs.1,95,000 auto hood minimum by Rs.25,509. |
| Rs.2,50,000 approved, inclusive | Rs.2,11,864 | Rs.38,136 | 300 auto hoods at Rs.1,95,000 with Rs.16,864 to spare. This is the first rung on the ladder that clears the hood minimum. |
| Rs.5,00,000 approved, inclusive | Rs.4,23,729 | Rs.76,271 | 500 auto hoods at Rs.3,15,000 plus 1,000 no-parking boards at Rs.45,000, with Rs.63,729 still unspent. |
The Rs.1,00,000 row is the cruel one. It clears the board minimum and the insert minimum, and it falls Rs.254 short of the 500-auto back panel minimum purely because of the tax. The Rs.2,00,000 row is the one that catches planners: a serious outdoor budget that reaches four of the five formats and still misses the smallest hood campaign by Rs.25,509, because the hood minimum is 300 autos and the tax sits on top of it rather than inside it.
Can you claim the 18 percent back?
For most businesses reading this, yes, and it changes the sums completely. Advertising bought in the course or furtherance of business is an input service, and it is not on the blocked credit list in Section 17(5) of the CGST Act, which is where things like personal consumption and certain motor vehicles sit. A GST registered business therefore normally takes full input tax credit on the 18% and sets it against its own output tax liability. For that buyer the rate card figure is the real cost, and the landed figure is a cash flow event rather than an expense.
If your business is not registered, or it is under the composition scheme, there is no credit to take and the landed total in the tables above is what the campaign really costs. That is the buyer this whole post is written for, because 18% of a Rs.1,95,000 hood campaign is Rs.35,100 that never comes back, and Rs.35,100 is itself most of a 1,000-board no-parking campaign.
Two practical points either way. Your GSTIN and correct legal name have to appear on the tax invoice or the credit is not yours to claim, so send them with the purchase order rather than chasing a corrected invoice later. And we are an advertising agency, not tax advisers: the position above is the general one, and your accountant should confirm it against your own registration before you plan around it.
Which rate cards do not publish a tax line?
Worth knowing before you compare two quotes. The auto hood, auto back panel, newspaper insertion and shop name board pages all state the tax position in writing, and so do the city pages for no-parking boards and mobile vans, where GST extra sits right next to the rate. The two national hub pages, mobile van branding and no-parking board advertising, publish their rates with no tax line at all. The no-parking hub describes its rate as all-inclusive, which refers to the board, printing, transport and installation rather than to tax, so read that as scope and ask for the tax line in writing on your quotation. The auto branding page also notes that some areas charge an auto-union fee billed extra, which sits outside the rate card and outside every number in this post.
There is a second gap worth naming. None of these pages publishes the SAC code the invoice will carry, and none states whether your invoice will show CGST plus SGST or IGST, which depends on whether the place of supply sits in the same state as our registration. It makes no difference at all to the total you pay. It makes a great deal of difference to how cleanly your accountant reconciles the credit, so ask for both on the quotation rather than finding out on the invoice.
Our verdict: does GST change which format you should book?
No, and yes. It does not reorder anything. The same 18% applies to all five formats, so the cheapest format before tax is still the cheapest after, and the per-copy, per-board and per-auto comparisons in our other cost posts hold exactly as written. What it changes is reach. If you can claim input credit, shortlist on the rate card numbers and treat the tax as working capital. If you cannot, plan only on the landed column, and accept that the two formats still within reach on a small budget are no-parking boards at Rs.53,100 for a thousand gates and a van you can book by the day from Rs.2,950. Send us the approved figure and tell us whether it includes tax, and we will quote to the landed number instead of the rate card.
Your pre-approval checklist
Seven questions to settle before the budget is signed, not after the quotation arrives.
- Is the budget you were given inclusive or exclusive of tax? Divide by 1.18 if inclusive, before you shortlist anything.
- Is the business GST registered, and will it actually claim input credit on this campaign? If not, work only from the landed column.
- Does the quotation state the tax rate and show the tax as a separate line rather than folding it into a round number?
- Are the GSTIN and legal name on the purchase order, so the invoice carries them?
- For autos, has the auto-union fee been asked about separately? It is billed extra in some areas.
- For a van, is the day rate taken from the city page you are booking, and does it include or exclude one-time fabrication?
- Does the quantity you costed actually meet the published minimum: 300 autos for hoods, 500 for back panels, 50,000 copies for inserts, 1,000 boards for no-parking?
Is GST charged on the full outdoor campaign or only on the printing?
On the full invoice. The published rates already bundle design, printing and installation, and on the van and board formats transport and permissions too, so the tax applies to the whole service value rather than to a printing component carved out of it. A 1,000-board campaign at Rs.45 a board is Rs.45,000 of service value and Rs.8,100 of tax, not Rs.8,100 on some smaller figure inside it.
What is the landed cost of 5,000 no-parking boards?
Rs.2,06,500. The published slab is Rs.35 a board once an order reaches 5,000, so 5,000 boards are Rs.1,75,000 before tax with Rs.31,500 of GST on top. Below that slab the rate is Rs.45 a board with a 1,000-board minimum, which means 4,999 boards would cost Rs.2,24,955 before tax. That is why orders anywhere near 5,000 are almost always written at 5,000.
How much GST is charged on a 10 sq ft shop name board?
Between Rs.153 and Rs.1,242, because the base rates differ by a factor of eight. A 10 sq ft non-lit board at Rs.85 per sq ft is Rs.850 plus Rs.153 of tax. A GSB LED board at Rs.260 per sq ft is Rs.2,600 plus Rs.468. An ACP board at Rs.690 per sq ft is Rs.6,900 plus Rs.1,242, landing at Rs.8,142. The shop board page states that 18% applies to signage manufacturing and installation.
Does a mobile van booking attract GST on the setup charge as well?
Yes, wherever a separate setup charge applies. The national van rate card prices a T-Shape at Rs.3,000 a day plus a one-time setup of Rs.12,000, so a 10-day booking is Rs.42,000 of service value and Rs.7,560 of tax, landing at Rs.49,560. City cards differ: Chennai publishes Rs.2,500 a day with fabrication, permits, GPS and daily reporting already inside the day rate, which lands 10 days at Rs.29,500.
Do these landed totals include anything besides tax?
No. Every figure here is a published rate multiplied by a quantity, plus 18%. They exclude whatever the rate card itself says is extra, and the two we know of are the auto-union fee charged in some areas for auto branding and any customisation briefed beyond standard scope. They also exclude your own creative production if you choose not to use the design work already bundled into these rates.
Quick Answers
How much is GST on outdoor advertising in India?
Outdoor advertising services are taxed at 18% GST, and every rate published on The Mediaverse service pages is quoted before that tax. A 300-auto hood campaign at Rs.650 per auto is Rs.1,95,000 on the rate card and Rs.2,30,100 landed. The arithmetic never changes: multiply the rate card total by 1.18. The shop name board pages state that the same 18% applies to signage manufacturing and installation.
What is the cheapest outdoor campaign you can book after tax?
A single day of T-Shape mobile van branding in Chennai is Rs.2,500 on the rate card and Rs.2,950 landed, and the published minimum booking is one day per van. Among the volume formats, no-parking boards have the lowest committed entry ticket: 1,000 boards at Rs.45 is Rs.45,000 before tax and Rs.53,100 landed. Auto hood branding has the highest floor at Rs.2,30,100 for its 300-auto minimum.
Can a business claim GST back on advertising spend?
A GST registered business buying advertising in the course of its business normally takes full input tax credit on the 18%, because advertising is not on the blocked credit list in Section 17(5) of the CGST Act. For that buyer the rate card figure is the real cost and the tax is a cash flow item. A business that is unregistered or under the composition scheme cannot claim it, so the landed total is the real cost. Confirm your own position with your accountant.
Does an approved budget of Rs.2,00,000 cover an auto hood campaign?
Not if that budget is tax inclusive. Rs.2,00,000 including 18% GST leaves Rs.1,69,491 of rate card spend, and the smallest hood campaign is Rs.1,95,000 before tax, so you need Rs.2,30,100 approved to book 300 autos. The same Rs.2,00,000 does cover 1,000 no-parking boards at Rs.53,100 landed, a 50,000 copy A5 insert run at Rs.73,750, or 500 auto back panel stickers at Rs.1,00,300.
