Website Redesign Cost in India vs Building New (2026)
At our published prices a redesign and a new build cost exactly the same. So the real decision is not money, it is what you keep and what you risk losing.

A website redesign in India costs the same as building new at published Mediaverse Digital rates: ₹60,000 for up to 8 pages, ₹1,50,000 for up to 20 pages with a CMS, and from ₹3,00,000 for ecommerce, GST extra. Redesigns add redirect mapping to protect existing rankings.
Key takeaways
- Same price either way: ₹60,000 for up to 8 pages (₹70,800 with 18% GST), ₹1,50,000 for up to 20 pages with CMS, from ₹3,00,000 for ecommerce or custom.
- Same timeline too: 3 to 4 weeks for a starter build, 4 to 6 weeks for a growth build, measured from the day content inputs land.
- The one real difference is migration. A redesign has to carry existing URLs, rankings and content across; a new domain build has nothing to protect.
- Traffic drops after a redesign almost always trace to skipped redirect mapping, not to the new design.
- If the site already converts and the problem is traffic, ₹40,000 per month of SEO may beat a ₹1,50,000 rebuild. Diagnose before you spend.
- Budget the running cost too: the optional care plan is ₹8,000 per month, so ₹1,13,280 a year with GST.
Most redesign quotes in India arrive without the one fact that decides the question: whether rebuilding what you have is cheaper than starting clean. At our published prices it is not, because the two cost the same. A custom site of up to 8 pages is ₹60,000, a 20-page site with a CMS is ₹1,50,000, and ecommerce or custom builds start at ₹3,00,000, whether the brief says redesign or new build. Those numbers are public on our pricing page, GST extra for Indian clients. So the money is settled before the conversation starts, and what is left is the interesting part: what a redesign has to carry across, and what it can quietly destroy.
What does a website redesign cost in India in 2026?
The same as a new build, tier for tier. Redesigns follow the identical process and pricing, which is stated on our website design and development page. The table below is the published rate card with 18% GST added, because the landed number is what actually leaves your account.
| Tier | Published price | With 18% GST | Scope | Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter Site | ₹60,000 (about $1,500) | ₹70,800 | Up to 8 pages, custom design, conversion copy, on-page SEO and schema, analytics and lead alerts | 3 to 4 weeks |
| Growth Site | ₹1,50,000 (about $3,500) | ₹1,77,000 | Up to 20 pages plus blog or CMS, keyword research, SEO content plan, AI-search optimization, A/B-testable landing pages | 4 to 6 weeks |
| Ecommerce / Custom | From ₹3,00,000 (from $6,000) | From ₹3,54,000 | Store or custom application, payment gateway, catalog architecture, dedicated project manager | Scoped upfront |
| Care plan (optional, ongoing) | ₹8,000 per month (about $99) | ₹9,440 per month, ₹1,13,280 a year | Hosting management, security updates, backups, small content edits, monthly performance report | Month to month |
Two things follow from a rate card that does not distinguish the two. First, nobody at our end has a commercial reason to push you toward the bigger job, because the bigger job is not priced bigger. Second, if a quote you receive elsewhere prices a redesign well below a new build, ask what is being skipped. The usual answer is the migration work, and that is the part that costs you traffic rather than money.
What is actually different between a redesign and a new build?
One thing: inheritance. A new build on a fresh domain starts with no URLs, no rankings, no backlinks and no content debt, so nothing can be lost. A redesign inherits all four, and every one of them can be dropped by a careless launch. That is the entire risk profile, and it is why a redesign starts with an audit of the current site covering speed, SEO and conversion, before anyone opens a design tool.
| Redesign of an existing site | New build | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Same published tiers, from ₹60,000 | Same published tiers, from ₹60,000 |
| Timeline | Same, 3 to 6 weeks by tier | Same, 3 to 6 weeks by tier |
| Starts with | A free audit of the current site: speed, SEO, conversion | Discovery call, sitemap from scratch |
| Biggest risk | Losing existing rankings through missing redirects | Starting at zero authority, ranking takes longer |
| Content | Existing pages audited, kept, merged or cut | Written new, nothing to migrate |
| Best when | You have traffic, rankings or a known domain worth protecting | New venture, new brand, or a site so thin there is nothing to save |
Why do websites lose traffic after a redesign?
Because the old URLs stop existing and nobody told Google where they went. When a page moves without a permanent redirect, the ranking signals that page earned do not move with it; the URL simply 404s, and everything it ranked for goes with it. Google documents this explicitly for site moves with URL changes, and the fix is unglamorous: map every old URL to its closest new equivalent, serve 301s, and keep them in place. Our redesigns preserve existing rankings with proper redirects for exactly this reason, and traffic loss during a redesign almost always comes from skipping this step. It is also why a redesign should never be judged in its first fortnight, when crawling is still catching up.
The one question to ask any redesign vendor
Ask to see the redirect map before launch: a spreadsheet with every current URL and the new URL it will point to. If the vendor does not produce one, they are planning to launch without it, and the ranking loss will be blamed on Google.
When is a redesign the wrong thing to buy?
When the site is not the problem. A rebuild fixes presentation, speed, structure and conversion. It does not manufacture demand. If your pages convert the visitors they get and the shortage is visitors, ₹1,50,000 spent on a Growth Site solves a problem you do not have, while ₹40,000 per month on SEO and AI search work addresses the one you do. Diagnose first: check whether your conversion rate or your traffic is the weak number, and buy against that answer. We would rather say this in public than sell the wrong tier.
- Traffic is fine, enquiries are not: a redesign is probably right, and the audit will say why.
- Enquiries convert well but there are too few: buy traffic work, not a rebuild.
- The site is slow, unreadable on phones, or you cannot edit it: rebuild, and the speed target is 90+ on mobile PageSpeed.
- You cannot get into your own hosting or domain: fix ownership first, because a rebuild on borrowed accounts repeats the trap.
- The brand or business model has changed: that is a new build in everything but name.
What does the first year actually cost?
Add the build to the running cost. A Starter redesign at ₹70,800 landed plus the optional care plan at ₹9,440 a month comes to ₹1,84,080 across the first twelve months. A Growth redesign on the same care plan is ₹2,90,280. Both figures assume you take the care plan, which is optional and month to month; without it the first-year cost is the build price alone, and 30 days of post-launch fixes are included either way. Domains, hosting and every account are registered in your name from day one, so none of this is rent you cannot stop paying.
What should a redesign proposal contain before you sign?
A redesign proposal that cannot answer these seven points is not a proposal, it is an estimate. The same fixed-scope standard applies to any build, which is the argument made at length in our website design cost guide for India.
- A fixed price and a fixed scope in writing, with change requests quoted separately before any work happens.
- An audit of the current site: speed, SEO and conversion, delivered before design starts.
- A redirect map covering every existing URL, agreed before launch.
- Which existing pages are kept, merged, rewritten or removed, named individually.
- The delivery window in weeks, and what starts the clock (usually your content inputs).
- Analytics, conversion events and lead alerts configured and verified after launch, not promised.
- Domain, hosting and all accounts registered in your name, with documentation at handover.
If you are weighing this against simply relying on a Google Business Profile, the trade-off is set out in our post on whether you need a website when you already have Google Maps. And if the goal of the rebuild is to be quotable by AI assistants as well as by Google, structure the new pages answer-first from the start, using the approach in our playbook on getting cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews. Retrofitting that structure after launch is a second project.
Frequently asked questions
Is redesigning a website cheaper than building a new one?
Not at our published prices, because both use the same tiers: ₹60,000 for up to 8 pages, ₹1,50,000 for up to 20 pages with a CMS, and from ₹3,00,000 for ecommerce, GST extra. A redesign reuses some content and brand decisions, but it adds audit and redirect work that a fresh build does not need, so the effort evens out. If a vendor prices a redesign far below a new build, ask which of those steps has been removed.
How long does a website redesign take?
The same as a new build at the same tier: 3 to 4 weeks for a starter site of up to 8 pages, and 4 to 6 weeks for a growth site of up to 20 pages with a CMS. The clock starts when your content inputs are received, not when the contract is signed, which is the single most common cause of a slipped timeline. The delivery window belongs in the written scope so both sides can see it.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I redesign my website?
Only if the migration is done badly. Rankings are attached to URLs, so every old URL needs a permanent redirect to its closest new equivalent, agreed as a map before launch. Done properly, rankings carry across and usually settle within a few weeks of crawling. Skipped, the old pages 404 and the rankings they earned disappear. Ask any vendor to show you the redirect map before the new site goes live.
Can I keep my existing content in a redesign?
Yes, and you often should. Pages that already rank are assets, so the audit decides page by page what to keep, merge, rewrite or remove rather than clearing the site out by default. Keeping a ranking page at the same URL with better presentation is usually the safest and cheapest option available in a redesign. What gets rewritten is content that never earned anything, which is where the copywriting budget belongs.
Do I need to change hosting or platform during a redesign?
Not necessarily, but check who owns the accounts first. We build on Next.js and register the domain, hosting and every account in your name from day one, so nothing is held hostage later. If your current site sits on accounts controlled by an old vendor, resolve that before commissioning anything, because a rebuild on borrowed accounts simply repeats the problem with newer code.
What ongoing cost should I budget after a redesign?
Thirty days of post-launch fixes are included on every tier. After that the optional care plan is ₹8,000 per month, about ₹9,440 with GST, covering hosting management, security updates, backups, small content edits and a monthly performance report. It runs month to month and can be stopped, and the site keeps working if you cancel. Across a first year a Starter redesign plus care comes to ₹1,84,080.
